How long does it take for overseas BAH to become available?

So my fiance stationed in japan, like I stated in my last question and were getting married Monday. After he enrolls me in DEERS and and scheduled the rest of the appointments that we need to take care of how long does it usually take for the housing to become available? Weeks? Months? I know marrying a soldier I'm marrying distance at times too? But I guess I want to prepare my self mentally and emotionally! How long does it take for overseas BAH to become available?
Housing can be really unpredictable so I suggest you look at both on and off post housing. It can take as little as a few weeks or as many as a few months to obtain on post housing depending on the availability at that particular post. As for bah, the first full month pay cycle after your enrollment he should get bah RETROACTIVE to the date you were married.the amount of money received varies from post to post depending on the local economy and cost of living. How long does it take for overseas BAH to become available?
On base housing typically takes months. If they happen to have a lot of openings it won't take that long, but expect several months. Finding a place off base isn't always that easy either.

By the way, you seem to be confused about something, BAH and housing are two different things. BAH is basic housing allowance, it's money you get for being married if your wife doesn't live with you. If you live in on base housing you'll get that taken away, if you live off-base you'll continue to get it.
doesn't work that way.

first he must get command sponsoirship for you.. You cannot move over there without it. It can easily be a six month long process IF it is even granted. You must pass an overseas screening first. And be advised that all expenses getting you there could be out of pocket.

in the meantime he can get BAH based on where you live once you are enrolled into DEERS. Takes about 30-45 days before that kicks in and will be retroactive to the date of the marriage.
If he is in Japan and you get married then the BAH will be issued for the location of where you are living. It can take up to 45 days before it will be in his pay but it will be backdated to the date you got married. For housing in japan you need command sponsorship. Overseas there in no BAH. So if you are not living in the US then he will not get BAH for you and where you are located. All costs will be out of your own pocket.

If you are attempting to go overseas to be with him, you need to go through a medical and dental screening to get command sponsorship. If he is Navy or Marines Corps, he must be an E4 at least before you can go to be there and he must extend to be there at least another 2 years. If he is in AF and Army then it can be granted but he will have to be there at least one year. It can take up to 6 months before command sponsorship is given. You will have to pay for yourself and your household goods to get there yourself. The military will not pay for any of it. Then when the sponsorship is issued he can register for housing, the wait time might not e there and then again it might be a wait for several months depending on the location he is stationed at. He can get authorization to live out in town and get OHA. With OHA that is based solely on what he is paying for rent. There is a separate amount received for utilities. Now if the rent is $1500 and the exchange rate for the day makes the rent $1600 cost, you will only get the $1500 and the rest comes out of pocket. So you do have to be careful when finding a place.

If you go to Japan, get married and expect everything to be done immediately you are going to run into problems. You will be only allowed to stay there 90 days and sponsorship is not always granted in that short time. You will have to pay for lodging yourself out of pocket and the lodging there is expensive.
